In a perfect world,
would you need help for
‘a’ level GENeral paper?
Coaching for almost all H2 subjects is understandable – new subjects, new approaches, new mark schemes etc. But H1 GP is a demanding animal in its own way too, unpredictable and frustrating.
Yet students want to study for GP the same way as H2 subjects, clamouring for formulae and structure. Some students - who are competent enough and maybe shouldn’t worry - develop anxiety in the company of uber-quality peers who keep dominating class discussions and submitting premium GP written work.
This is made more challenging by different GP tutors adopting their own approaches in classes they teach. Then comes that unnecessary tension among hundreds of students, comparing and contrasting their notes and tutors to seek out 'the best way'.
Most JCs give compiled topical notes, many teachers put effort into setting and marking work, and the bulk of Singapore students are competent in English writing.
So, when do you seek 1-to-1 external help for GP? Well, if you are an ‘A’ Level student now, typically, any of the following could be happening:
You are not able to keep awake during scheduled lessons (for any reason at all).
You are likely to have lots of questions that you are not able to ask in class (for any reason at all).
You seem to be very engaged in the subject but routinely get Cs and Ds for either or both the GP essay and comprehension exercises.
You could be having trouble relating to your class tutor in school.
You do not want to be held into a timeslot, location or repetitive lessons with popular tuition agencies.
Coaching is 1-to-1 or at most 1-to-3 students so that more can be gained per person from each session. While priority engagement is for Yr 6/JC2 students who have exhausted other avenues or have little time on their hands, Yr 5/JC1 students and private candidates are welcome too.
